Oh dearie me.

Let's see the BNP win "massive gains" in parliament with this little debacle. Nothing that they didn't have coming to them a million times over - every one of them who loses their jobs over this has it on his own head.

Music:VNV Nation - Illusion

So, via the magic of the internet, I've obtained a leaked copy of the much-awaited and highly controvertial Dungeons and Dragons Fourth Edition core rulebooks.

Boy, they sure did fuck it up this time.

This game seems to have failed a Will save against Illusion and forgotten it's not World of Warcraft. I'm serious, I can almost see the Tauren Warriors coming out of the mists. The artistic design, the game mechanics, the way the whole thing works is like World of Warcraft in book form by any other name. Of course, by any other name, there's an actual World of Warcraft roleplaying game that I would highly recommend (it being a d20 System game and all), which is more than I could ever say for this 4E crap. All classes now have active and passive abilities with a stated "power source" and cooldown timer. Yes, triggerable abilities with a set cooldown. Sound familiar? Characters have the ability to "evolve" their classes along set lines. Abilities are earned and picked on a by-level basis. There's a race of noble demons. What was that? No, I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you over the calls of "LFG" and the guys on my Ventrilo server asking for a Prot-specced Paladin to run Zul'Gurub. What do you mean I need to be level 60 to handle the aggro? I've got purple shoulders and everything!

tl;dr there's more here )

I should note that I won't be losing an immense ammount of sleep over this, as I still have all my 3.5e rulebooks and they hold their value as the last good D&D distro. I am, in fact, rolling up some NPCs now for an adventure. It doesn't concern me enough that I'd get in a big tantrum over it, but seriously - it's just a real disappointment to see such a great brand that's been so thoroughly mangled.

Right, so, last time I had one of these, it didn't quite work as well because my parents didn't give me the date until only a couple of weeks in advance. Thusly, it will probably work better this time since I have the date almost two months in advance. So, without further ado:

I will be having a barbecue at my house on July 19th, 2008. You are all invited.

As before, crash space will have to be booked well in advance. Vegetarian options will be available. We can do proper guest lists nearer the time, but I just want to tell all you guys well in advance so that if you want to attend, it doesn't come as a complete surprise.

So once again I've been using the The LJ Markov Random Text Generator with my livejournal, and it's producing some rather... "interesting" results:

"It's a circular thing, and if you people don't take the above faults, Bioshock is a clockwork monster that eats time"

"Atlas feels like a hail of angry Christian wasps"

"fullest extent and, although having enjoyed it, the crowd are now more interested in this sort of demented juggling act from hell."

"Leave a comment and I would rain as much the second time around."

"But the problem is the weakest gin-and-tonic of my friendslist."

"even the cancer that Bioshock gives you could do with a filthy rat bastard"

"The London warhead encounters a fault and crashlands in a world without fear."

"They will rape you with a dream that reaches for the whole "help me get control of the human condition."

"in which is Cortez, right down Tinseltown. Burn, down, to unneccessarily large rooms to pictures again, which was hosting a total idiot."

Because [info]mr_cullen did it, and because I nagged him to answer it, I feel it would be hypocritical in the extreme if I refused to do it myself:

Leave a comment and I will:
a. tell you why I friended you.
b. associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc.
c. tell you something I like about you.
d. tell you a memory I have of you.
e. ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
f. tell you my favorite user pic of yours.

In return, you must post this in your LJ.

So last night I had this rather chilling dream. It was a music video, for an unspecified band, and it starred Brad Pitt.

Brad Pitt, starring as some rich, wealthy dilettante artist, was hosting a big expose for his lastest masterpiece at his palatial mansion, which was a massive circular structure centred around a launchpad upon which twelve large missiles sat. All the great and the good of America (and by the great and the good I mean the rich) were gathered, sipping Martinis and Dom Perignon and making small talk. Brad Pitt announces the band (which I think may have included me as the lead singer, so it may have been Decay Acceleration Factor, but I'm not sure) and asks everyone to watch his masterpiece take form. The music begins as he presses a button.

The missiles are revealed to be manned nuclear warheads, and they rocket off into the sky each with a genocidal helmsman at the controls, aimed for twelve different population centres (one was London, another one was Mumbai, it isn't specified where the others go, but I presume they all go to important and highly-populated cities). The missiles peak, leave atmosphere, turn around and re-enter, and the first stage drops away and the piloted warheads seperate and begin their own powered flight towards their targets, interspersed with shots of the band playing. The London warhead encounters a fault and crashlands in a dusk-lit, hilly area, to a sigh of disappointment from the watching crowds, but all the other eleven warheads hit their targets at the music's crescendo, with shots of the mushroom clouds and shockwaves devastating the targetted cities.

There is a clamour of polite applause and cheering from the crowd. The scene is one of polite boredom, after having sampled a work of art to its fullest extent and, although having enjoyed it, the crowd are now more interested in each other than the work of art. The band ceases playing. Death toll, probably hundreds of millions, but no-one seems to care.

It struck me as breathtakingly surreal and yet chillingly realistic at the same time.

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4.Use your graphics programme of choice to throw them together, and post the result as a comment in this post (optional).

And because I liked the band so much, I did a track listing for them!

You get three guesses as to their genre ;)

People who espouse the frankly idiotic view that Liberal Democrats are a protest vote irritate me because they're the reason that view has merit.

If you refuse to vote for the Liberal Democrats because, and only because people don't vote for them - if you support their policies, if you agree with them in every other way, but still refuse to vote for them - you are the cancer that is killing /b/ England.

The reason that people don't take the Liberal Democrats seriously is because people don't take the Liberal Democrats seriously. It's a circular thing, and if you people don't help us bootstrap out of this situation, things are never going to get better.

That is all.

So, Daniel fixed the FTP server so that I can link to pictures again, which is awesome - he used a fix so amazingly simple that it makes me feel like a total idiot. So, in celebration of this fact:

Epic Keihound arts )

THANK YOU KEI, I ARE <3 YOU FOREVER :D

Anyway, in other news, EVE is becoming even more fun, as I have:

a. Joined a 0.0 alliance finally, so I can make tons of money
b. Teamed up with another fur to (quite literally) gay up the Intergalactic Summit (the official roleplay board)
c. Started to learn invention skills
d. Gotten into my first Tech II ship
e. Pwned two Cerberi and a Vagabond in a recent PvP op
f. Generally had a lot of fun which is what EVE is supposed to be about

The meet was great too. Got to see a few friends I hadn't seen in a while, and afterwards we ate at Bodean's (as I remarked to Chao, it is awesome, but should only be eaten at occasionally, lest it become routine and stop being awesome), picked up a huge stack of NiN albums and went home.

Hey, I'm tired. Can't think of very specific events - gimme a break XD
